Cosplay and a Giveaway

Have you ever showed up late to a party and missed something awesome? You walked in the door, and everyone was all, "Oh, man, you should have been there! The Spice Girls showed up with Rice Krispie Treats and we all danced and it was amazing!" That just happened to me.

Soon after I was hired as a staff writer for In the Powder Room, they came out with a book. And they were all, "Yeah, we totally just finished this book ten minutes before we hired you." D'oh! I was bummed. That's some seriously bad timing. The book, if you haven't heard, is "You Have Lipstick on Your Teeth," and it's an Amazon best-seller. Editor Leslie Marinelli collected 40 ridiculously talented writers and asked them for their best stories that they'd only share with their girlfriends... wait for it... In the Powder Room. Get it?

Of course I had to do the cover photo cosplay. But I did it Jenn Style. Note the nails.

The result is one of the best books I've ever read in my life. Flashback time!

Years ago, a bunch of my male friends went on a camping trip. Some of the ladies got together for a lady party while they were gone. We ended up sitting on the back deck at one lady's house until the wee hours of the morning. Some of the ladies were close friends. Some, I'd known for ages, but we didn't see each other often. There was one lady who I'd never met before.
We talked all night. We talked about everything. Funny, embarrassing stories. Breakups. Hurt feelings. Epic nights. We finished every bottle of wine and every pack of cigarettes in the house. And then I looked up, and the sky was getting lighter... Oh, shit! It was after five o'clock in the morning! I got in my car and sped home, close to tears. I was absolutely positive that my husband was going to send me packing when I walked in the door.
I got home around six. My husband was playing with our son, then two, in his bedroom. I frantically apologized for not realizing the time, for not calling him, for being so irresponsible... And he asked if I had fun. I told him I had. Turns out, he wasn't mad at all.

Back to "You Have Lipstick on Your Teeth." Reading this book felt just like that late night on the deck with my lady friends. Some of the authors are my colleagues. Some, I've seen them around the internet for years. A few, I'd never even heard of. But every one of them shared a story with me about her life. A lot of them were funny. I mean, really funny. Some were sweet. Some were heartbreaking. Every one of them made me want to drive over to the author's house and hug her for one reason or another.

So, even though I was late, I had an awesome time at the party. And guess what. You're invited, too! I'm giving away a copy of "You Have Lipstick on Your Teeth" signed by The Bearded Iris herself, Leslie Marinelli! Are you psyched? Yes. Yes, you are. So hurry up and enter!
